Working again, with a multinational information technology company, we were commissioned with creating an interactive table top city stand for HPE Discovery 2022 in Las Vegas.
I was a part of the entire project, from concept right up to early manufacturing, over the course of four months. The goal was to create an event box stand that could be portable using just an inner frame, table top and graphics wrap that could all fit in a flight case for ease of transporting to the event.
Once the initial 3D concepts were approved, I set about making the requested amendments, specifically changing the design to a darker theme. Additionally, we reduced the number of city blocks so there was more screen coverage.
After this, I had to accurately measure and layout everything in a graphics plan (blueprint) for iterative development. The tricky part was creating the table top to fit around a 42" digital signage display (which later changed to a 50")! After about six versions we landed on the final result.
The table top itself was manufactured by another company, so I had to make sure all the measurements were as accurate as possible and to convert everything from CM into MM. Originally, the 3D model city blocks were planned to be 3D printed in-house and I mocked up several layouts but the decision was later made to use clear acrylic blocks.
I was very happy to see the end result images from the event and is a great example of a complete project from start to finish.
